Is this name on a sanctions list?
Type a person’s or an organisation’s name, and a date of birth if you have one. It is checked against the UK Sanctions List and the UN, EU and US OFAC lists, as published this morning.
5 free lookups with an account. A date of birth narrows a person’s possible matches.
Example (made up): what an answer looks like
“Ivan Example” on the sanctions lists
1 possible match: compare each with what you know before you decide.
A possible match is not a finding. Compare the date of birth, nationality and other details on the listing with what you hold. If you confirm a match on the UK list: don’t deal with their money or assets, and report to OFSI.

Checking a client properly?
A client’s check in Stratum screens the client and the people behind a company against the sanctions lists and for PEP, keeps the result with a signed certificate, and watches them every morning after, with an alert if anyone is added to a list.
Which lists are searched?
The UK Sanctions List (the FCDO’s), the UN Security Council consolidated list, the EU consolidated financial sanctions list and the US OFAC lists (SDN and non-SDN). Each is read from its official publisher every morning, and the answer gives each list’s date.
What do I do with a possible match?
Compare the listing’s date of birth, nationality and other details with what you hold. Most possible matches are someone else with a similar name. If you confirm it is the same person on the UK list, you must not deal with their money or assets, and you must report it to OFSI.
Does it check PEPs or adverse media?
No: this tool searches the official sanctions lists only. A client’s check in your register adds PEP and adverse media.
Is it free?
Every Stratum account gets 5 free lookups, shared by the firm and across the tools, to see how it works. You need an account to run one; your question is kept while you make it. A firm on a plan uses the tools as part of it.
